Veteran cinematographer and director Sivan dies of cardiac arrest in Kerala

National Award-winning cinematographer and director Sivan suffered a cardiac arrest on Thursday (June 24) and breathed his last at his home in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He was 89. His funeral and last rites are expected to be performed today. . He rose to fame in the Malayalam film industry with the photographs he took for a film titled Chemeen. His sons, Santosh Sivan, Sangeeth Sivan and Sanjeev Sivan are part of the film industry.

Sangeeth Sivan took to Twitter to share two throwback photos and penned a heartfelt note for his dad. He wrote, "Thank you Dad for everything! Difficult to imagine a world without you but we will continue to trudge d path you have paved for us, safe in d knowledge that u would b guiding us from your place in the clouds & stars. Forever indebted. #OmShanthi #Sivan (sic)."Sivan won a National Award three times in his career. Some of his popular films include Abhayam, Yagam, Keshu, Oru Yathra, Kochu Kochu Mohangal and Kilivathil, among others. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala, Assembly Speaker M B Rajesh and other politicians condoled the death of Sivan. “Sivan was well-known in the movie industry especially for his cinematography skills. His Sivan studio at Thiruvananthapuram was a popular gathering spot for many prominent cultural icons,” Vijayan said in his condolence message.
