Guess what Microsoft’s Satya Nadella was discussing when Open AI saga was unfolding

American news magazine The New Yorker’s latest story on the Open AI - Sam Altman Saga sheds light on some interesting tidbit that might tickle Indian cricket fans.

It is common knowledge how Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is a huge fan of cricket and Indian cricket in particular, given his Indian origin. The New Yorker, in its story titled The Inside Story of Microsoft’s Partnership with OpenAI, has detailed how Microsoft, that has over $1 billion investment in the artificial intelligence startup Open AI headed by its mercurial CEO Sam Altman, tried to salvage the situation after the board fired Altman and most of his coworkers resigned in protest of the board’s move.

It is interesting to see that even as its billion dollar investment was under threat with Open AI’s sudden move to fire Altman, Microsoft’s CEO, while discussing the rapidly changing and a potentially volatile situation at Open AI, was eagerly following India team’s performance in the final match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. It is clear that Nadella, like most other Indians, is a huge Virat Kohli fan and was getting updates every time India cricket team lost a wicket. Eventually, India lost the finals against Australia, who lifted the trophy after disappointing performance by  India who had remained undefeated in their march to  the final.
