Anil Deshmukh: Legal action will be taken against Patanjali if they try to advertise or sell their COVID-19 drug in Maha

Maharashtra government will take legal action against Patanjali if they try to advertise or sell their anti-Corona drug as AYUSH Ministry is yet to approve the medicine, said Anil Deshmukh, Maharashtra Home Minister.

"The National Institute of Medical Sciences, Jaipur will find out whether clinical trials of @PypAyurved''s ''Coronil'' were done at all. An abundant warning to @yogrishiramdev that Maharashtra won't allow sale of spurious medicines. #MaharashtraGovtCares #NoPlayingWithLives," the minister tweeted.

"Complaints have been made in several states against their (Patanjali) advertisement (that the medicine cures COVID-19) when there has been no permission in the first place from the ministry or the Indian Council of Medical Science," he said.

"An offence will be registered against them if they try to sell the medicine in Maharashtra or advertise that COVID-19 can be cured with it," Deshmukh said.

The AYUSH Ministry had said on Tuesday that it has taken cognizance of news in the media about Ayurvedic medicines developed for the treatment of COVID-19 by Patanjali Ayurved Ltd, Haridwar and said the company has been asked to "stop advertising/publicising such claims till the issue is duly examined".
