Arnab Goswami caught using mobile phone in judicial custody, gets shifted to Taloja jail

Arnab Goswami, the Editor-in-Chief of Republic TV, was shifted to Taloja Jail in Navi Mumbai on Sunday after he was caught using a mobile phone at Alibaug muncipal school's quarantine centre according to a Mumbai Mirror report. While being taken to jail in a police van, Goswami claimed that he was pushed and assaulted and that there was a threat to his life. The video where he claims that he was assaulted by the jailer has now gone viral on social media. Taloja Taloja Taloja,' Goswami is clearly heard shouting from inside the van. He also said that he was not being allowed to speak to his lawyers. According to a report in TOI, Raigad crime branch's investigating officer inspector Jamil Shaikh said, “Two days after he was sent to judicial custody, late on Friday evening, we learned that Goswami was active on social media, using somebody's mobile phone. We had seized his personal mobile when he was arrested from his Worli residence on Wednesday.”

On Saturday, the Bombay HC had reserved the order in the plea challenging Arnab Goswami’s arrest. The Bombay High Court had then announced that the verdict will be pronounced at 3 pm on Monday. According to Bar and Bench, a website that covers legal news, Arnab Goswami claimed in his petition that during the course of arrest a senior police officer hit him with a heavy boot, he received a half a foot deep gash in his left hand and suffered serious injury to his spinal cord. Goswami also alleged that he was “forced to drink a liquid” by police officers while they surrounded him. He also said that after drinking the liquid he “choked”.The Republic TV editor-in-chief was arrested by Alibaug police and was remanded to judicial custody till November 18 by a magistrate's court. n May 2018, an FIR was filed against Arnab Goswami after an interior designer had committed suicide in Mumbai. In a suicide note, Anvay Naik claimed Goswami owed him a total of Rs 5.4 crore.
