Bombay HC cancels caste certificate of MP Navneet Rana

The Bombay High Court on Tuesday cancelled the caste certificate issued to Amravati Lok Sabha member Navneet Kaur Rana, saying it was obtained fraudulently using fabricated documents, and directed her to surrender it within six weeks.

A bench of Justices R D Dhanuka and V G Bisht passed the order. Rana had won the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. However, Shiv Sena leader and former MP Anandrao Adsul had gone to the High Court against her caste certificate. The Bombay High Court today ruled on the petition.

In 2013, Navneet Kaur married Ravi Rana. After that she got the Scheduled Caste Certificate. It was verified. In 2017, Shiv Sena leader Anandrao Adsul filed a petition against this certificate in the high court. The court then sent the caste certificate for re-verification. Rana contested the Lok Sabha elections in 2019 on the basis of this caste certificate. She defeated Adsull in the Lok Sabha elections.

Anandrao Adsul filed a petition in the High Court against Rana's caste certificate. The verdict was heard today. A division bench of Justices R D Dhanuka and V G Bisht also imposed a cost of Rs 2 lakh, which she needs to pay to the Maharashtra Legal Services Authority within a period of two weeks. Rana's candidature is now in jeopardy as the same certificate on the basis of which she contested the elections in 2019 has now been canceled.
