Construction in full swing on Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg, likely to be ready by May 2022

The construction work of the upcoming Nagpur-Mumbai Expressway which is named 'Hindu Hruday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg" is going on in full swing. The highway will be thrown open for public use by May 1, 2022, informed Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Vice President and Managing Director Radheshyam Mopalwar on Thursday. 

He interacted with media representatives on Thursday through video conferencing. During the interaction, he presented an audio recording telling about the current status of the construction of the Samruddhi Highway project.

Mopalwar said that the construction work of Samrudhi Highway is going on in full swing. Out of 701 km length, 152.17 km road has been completed so far. He said that the entire Samrudhi Highway will be thrown open for public use till May 1, 2022. Anil Kumar Gaikwad, Joint Managing Director, Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation and Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar were also present during the media interaction.

Maharashtra government on 11 December 2019, gave approval to naming the project after the late Shiv Sena supremo.

The 701 kilometre long, eight lane expressway will connect Mumbai with Nagpur, and pass through 10 districts, 26 tehsils and 390 villages.

It is expected to cost Rs 46,000 crore and will cut travel time between the two cities to around eight hours.
