COVID-19: Ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi, sale of flowers boom in Pune

The flower market, which was closed for more than three months due to the coronavirus lockdown has slowly started some it's shops. Due to the lockdown there has been a sharp drop in demand for flowers due to absence of public functions, wedding and other celebrations as well as temporary closure of all places of religion. 

But now the markets are all set for the arrival of Ganpati Bappa. Due to Ganpati festival the demand for flowers has  increased. On Thursday the market saw many customers who flocked to buy flowers to bring in their festival. 

Due to Ganeshotsav flowers are in great demand and many are buying it for temple decoration, various types of garlands, pandal decoration etc. The number of sellers and customers for shopping has increased. 

Marigold flowers are in great demand and it was sold at Rs 100-200 per kg depending on the grade. 

The prices of flowers including marigold, tuberose, chrysanthemum, dutch rose and aster saw an increase. A bunch of simple roses were sold at Rs 30 to 60 and a bunch of Dutch roses at Rs 100 to 160. Trader Sagar Bhosale also said that the price of flowers will continue to rise till Gauri immersion.
