'Driverless Metro Car’ for MMRDA to reach Mumbai by January end

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will receive the delivery of first Made in India metro rake by end of this month. This rake will be kept at Charkop depot, the work of which is almost complete.

The first indigenous ‘Driverless Metro Car’ for the Mumbai Metro is set to arrive next week. Maharashtra Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde visited BEML's factory in Bangalore to inspect the coaches and learn about the features of the metro.

On January 22, the first Metro train will leave Bangalore for Mumbai and after seven years, Mumbai is ready to welcome the new Metro.

Rajiv Agarwal, MMRDA Systems Divisional Director, Dr. Hota, BSNL CMD, Deepak Kumar Banerjee, Director, Railways and Metro Division, Sumit Bhatnagar, CGM, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation were present on the occasion.
    
The driveless metro trains has been manufactured at BEML’s Bangalore Complex.

According to BEML's regulatory filing, the cars will operate on 25 kV AC traction power and equipped with CCTV surveillance and with the provision to carry passenger bi‐cycles in the coaches. The cars are made up of stainless steel body with a capacity of carrying 2280 passengers in 6 cars Metro train‐set.
