Natural movements are expected in the Bay of Bengal in the coming weeks. A low pressure area is likely to form over the north Bay of Bengal on June 11 and catalyse the advance of southwest monsoon into West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Sikkim, Chhattisgarh, and Bihar, the Met department said. Fairly widespread rainfall with heavy showers at isolated places is likely to occur over eastern India owing to the low pressure system. Madhya Pradesh may also be hit by the storm. The effect can be seen in Marathwada, Telangana and Tamil Nadu.

The meteorological department has forecast heavy rains in Maharashtra and coastal areas of the state including Mumbai. Borivali, Kandivali, Nalasopara and Vasai have been receiving heavy  rains since Tuesday morning. The local meteorological department in Mumbai has warned of a change in the weather in the next five days. Monsoon is expected to start from June 10 in Konkan and Central Maharashtra. Taking stock of the monsoon situation in the state, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has directed the administration to be ready to face any crisis.

The state administration has ordered evacuation of low-lying areas, landslide prone areas and coastal areas. NDRF and SDRF units have been deployed where needed during heavy rains. People have also been instructed to move to safer places in dangerous buildings.

Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal said in the meeting that 474 pumps have been installed in places where water can be saved this year. Junior engineers will be on the spot for flood management during heavy rains. Two large tanks have been set up in the vicinity of Hindmata, in which the stagnant water is diverted and stored. Every police station will rush for hel in case if there is a problem. There are 5 Corporation schools in each ward and people will be relocated there as per the need.

Heavy rains have also flooded roads in Mumbai's Sion area. On Sunday night, part of a four-storey building collapsed in the Bahrambagh area of Mumbai's Bandra. One person was killed and five others were injured in the accident. The accident took place around 2 pm.
