Opposition has taken the Brihanmumbai Corporation (BMC) administration to task after first monsoon rains flooded Mumbai and its suburbs. The BJP has alleged that BMC had failed to clean up nullahs ahead of the monsoon and has accused it of corruption.

"Mumbai has received 140 to 160 mm of rainfall so far. It has also received 60 mm of rain in just one hour. Therefore, Mumbai is flooded. Due to low carrying capacity of drainage, Mumbai will be flooded for a few hours," Chahal said.

Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal took to the streets after the floods in Mumbai and inspected the situation. Mayor Kishori Pednekar was also present on the occasion. "Normally, if 165 mm of rain falls in 24 hours, it is considered excessive. However, Mumbai has received 140 to 160 mm of rain so far. Also, 60 mm of rain lashed the city in just one hour. In Sion-Dadar area received showers ranging 155 mm which has resulted in flooding, "said Iqbal Singh Chahal.
