The BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation's action in partly demolishing Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut's office received flak from various quarters, including ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) partners Nationalist Congress Party, Congress, and the opposition BJP on Wednesday.

Kangana had earlier mentioned NCP chief Sharad Pawar saying: "This was not just to me but to entire building and this is not my flat issue but a building issue which builder needs to deal with and this building belongs to Sharad Pawar we bought the flat from his partner so he is answerable for this not me."

Responding to Kangana's tweet, Maharashtra minister Jitendra Awhad said late Wednesday: "Everybody in Maharashtra knows about the contribution of Sharad Pawar Saheb in building and developing Maharashtra but one lady has misinterpreted it as constructing a building.

Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis termed it "an act of cowardice and vendetta" by the Maharashtra government which he said has "dented its image all over the country".

Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam questioned whether "Kangana's office was illegal or the BMC's act of demolishing it" and said that the High Court found the action "improper" and stayed it.

The civic body was at the receiving end of the social media ire as many users criticised why only Ranaut was targeted when others indulging in illegal constructions got away.
