Maharashtra govt fixes rate for treatment of Mucormycosis

he number of patients with mucormycosis (black fungus) is increasing in the Maharashtra.  Since treatment for this disease is not affordable to the common man, treatment rates for this disease have been fixed for private hospitals.  Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Friday approved the notification of the health department in this regard. Cities have been categorized in determining the rates and hospitals cannot charge higher rates other than the fixed rates.

It was observed that some hospitals across the state were charging higher rates for the treatment of black fungus.  Therefore, this decision of the state government will curb such practices.  In view of the increasing number of patients undergoing treatment for mucormycosis in private hospitals, Health Minister Rajesh Tope had submitted a proposal to control the rates in private hospitals for treatment.  It has been approved by Chief Minister Thackeray and the notification will be applicable across the state from today till July 31, 2021.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Rajesh Tope had a few days back announced the decision to provide free treatment to patients with mucormycosis under the state government's Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana.  Accordingly, patients with mucormycosis are being treated free of cost from hospitals participating in the Mahatma Phule Janaarogya and Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.
