Just as the meeting of the Maharashtra environment department was coming to an end, a large chandelier outside the main hall of the Sahyadri guest house collapsed along with POP slab. Minister Aditya Thackeray left the House in the nick of time, he briefly escaped.

The incident happened around 4.45 pm on Friday.

A loud thud noise was heard as the environment department meeting began in the evening. Although no one was injured, the question remains as to why this happened.

Aditya Thackeray also took photos of the incident and gave all the information to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

However, the accident was fatal, so all the security personnel at the Sahyadri guest house were alerted. And Tourism Minister Aditya Thackeray and all the officials were kept in a safe place.

The construction of Sahyadri Guest House is about 25 years old. The public works department started a survey of the entire guest house to check and audit for any potential future threats there, and at other major venues. A structural audit conducted a few months ago said there was no risk. However, the collapse of the false ceiling has raised questions about the audit. Public Works Minister Ashok Chavan has ordered an inquiry into the matter.

An official said that in the pandemic lockdown, most ministers, including Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and others prefer to conduct their official meetings at Sahyadri Guest House or some other government locations as many Covid-19 cases have been detected in the Mantralaya during the past 15 months.
