Maratha Reservation: Mete's petition in High Court against CM Thackeray and Ashok Chavan

Shiv Sangram leader Vinayak Mete has filed a petition in the Aurangabad bench of Bombay High Court against Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Ashok Chavan against the cancellation of Maratha reservation by the Supreme Court.

Vinayak Mete said that on May 5, the Supreme Court passed a judgement where it unanimously declared a Maharashtra law which provided reservation benefits to the Maratha community, taking the quota limit in the state above 50 per cent, as unconstitutional. As a result, the Maratha community has come into the open category.

After the reservation was canceled, we had demanded the state government to give reservation to the Maratha community in EWS. For the economically weaker people who do not get any reservation, 10 per cent reservation is given for people of any community. It was demanded to take the Maratha community. However, 15-20 days have passed and no action has been taken.

"I have filed a petition in the Aurangabad bench against the denial," Mete said. Mete has requested the court that at many places job placements, admissions have already begun. Therefor a notification should be isued at the earliest to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Ashok Chavan and the state secretary, Mete said in the petition.

The Maratha community has planned to launch a state-wide morcha from Beed in the Marathwada region on June 5. Shiv Sangram founder and legislator Vinayak Mete, on Sunday, said that the morcha will be held though the police won’t allow it. He chaired a meeting today to chalk out the preparations for the proposed morcha. The march will be carried out following the rules of Corona. Social distancing, masks, sanitizers will be provided. The government is holding big parties and holding elections during covid period.
