Heavy rains lashed Mumbai and neighbouring Thane district overnight, causing water-logging at several places and affecting local train services and road traffic movement on Tuesday morning, officials said.

A landslide near suburban Kandivali disrupted vehicular movement from western suburbs towards south Mumbai, the official said. No casualty was reported in the incident. Traffic movement from Byculla to south Mumbai was also affected due to inundation at some places, he said.

BMC has also appealed to residents to stay at home and urged commercial establishments, except those providing essential services, to remain closed on Tuesday as heavy rains are likely to continue for next 48 hours.

Th IMD also tweeted, "Owing to the heavy rainfall since last night and forecasts of extremely heavy rain by @IndiaMetDept, all offices and establishments in Mumbai, except emergency services, will remain closed."

With a 4.45 metre high tide at 12:47pm, Mumbaikars are requested to not venture out unless extremely necessary & stay away from the shore & waterlogged areas.
