Pune Municipal Corporation Demolishes Illegal Structures Near HEMRL Following Bombay HC Order

Following the Bombay High Court's firm stance against unauthorized constructions near defense establishments' restricted zones, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) took swift action by demolishing approximately 40 shops and 10 bungalows situated in the restricted area adjacent to the boundary wall of the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL) in Sutarwadi.

According to the PMC officials, 40 furniture shops were built on the restricted defence area near the Mumbai-Banglore Highway. The PMC had razed up to 10 illegal structures in November 2023. The PMC's actions were challenged in court, meanwhile, the court ordered the PMC to raze the establishments on an immediate basis.

Deputy Engineer of the Pune Municipal Corporation Sunil  Kadam stated that the 20 shops will be demolished today in police protection while the other 20 will be demolished later. The actions were taken as per the court's orders and as per the Unified Development Control and Promotion Regulations, 2020 (UDCPR) regulations.
