Mangesh Gillurkar will represent RTM Nagpur University in the archery trials to select the Indian team for the forthcoming World University Games. The 31st World University Games 2021 will be held at Chengdu in China from August 18 to 29, 2021.

The Indian University archery team will be selected after the trials scheduled to be held at KITS University, Bhubaneswar in Odisha from March 17 to 19.

In the three-day trials at Bhubaneswar, only Mangesh Gillurkar, a student of Prerana College, Nagpur, will represent the Nagpur varsity team, said Dr Sharad Suryawanshi, director of physical education and sports, RTM Nagpur University here on Friday.

In the trials held for the World Archery Championship at Sonipat, Haryana from February 29 to March 2, 2020, Mangesh had finished 13th. Trials were conducted by the Sports Authority of India last year. Mangesh had notched up 693 points at Sonipat.

On the basis of his brilliant performance at Sonipat, Mangesh has been called for the trials for World University Games. He will participate in the 50 metres compound event.

Mangesh trains under Mohammed Zeeshan here at the Easy Archery Academy. Mangesh had represented Nagpur University in the All India Inter-University Archery Championship in 2017-18 and 2018-19. Last year he had claimed bronze medal at the Maharashtra Junior State Archery tournament at Palghar while competing in his favourite 50m compound event.
