During the action on a bookie, the Lakadganj police embroiled into a controversy regarding extortion. Earlier, they escaped the punishment. But this time the trouble is set to increase due to strictness and clean image of police commissioner Amitesh Kumar.

It may be mentioned here that Lakadganj police nabbed a bookie Piyush Goyal near Ambedkar Square while betting on IPL. After taking him to police station, it is alleged that lakhs of rupees were extorted from him in the name of senior police officers. After taking the money, police released Piyush on bail. Senior officers even did not get the clue of the incident. On September 28, Amitesh Kumar, in his first crime meeting, ordered the police station officers to wipe out illegal businesses and criminals, and warned them of take strict action against any laxity in it. Within 24 hours, the Lakadganj police unraveled the order and obliged the bookie.

Police commissioner got the clue of Lakadganj police nexus with bookie. He immediately ordered Zone 3 DCP Rahul Maknikar to investigate into the matter. It created trouble for Lakadganj police. The police commissioner himself reached the Lakadganj police station on Saturday evening.

He reprimanded the officers and personnel. Fear of action, officers and workers were sweated out. The officers tried to protect themselves by placing responsibility on the personnel. When the commissioner of police raised questions on accountability, the officials were speechless. The commissioner of police investigated the matter in depth and directed to take action.

This is not the first time the Lakadganj police have come into the dock. They raided a betel nut godown during lockdown. In the presence of the police, a truck laden with betel nut worth about `2 crore was disappeared from the godown. It is learnt that a big deal been been reached. Investigation was also started in this case. This investigation has also proved to be worthless exercise. Even after six months, the truth has not been revealed. In fact, the Lakadganj police are intent on doing anything under the influence of ''branding''. Their addiction is always in the discussion of police station officers. Police commissioner Amitesh Kumar has no place for branding.
