Leopardess death case in Ramtek Range solved, one arrested

Nagpur, Oct 11

A carcass of leopard was found on farm of Rahul Wasudeo Wasnik in Mauja Nayakund in Patgowari Round of Ramtek Range Forest of Nagpur forest division September 30, 2020 afternoon at 4 pm.

The forest officials and field staff rushed to spot and found that the carcass was of a female leopard. A mauka panchnama was conducted and the dead leopardess was shifted to Transit Treatment Centre in Seminary Hills. A team of veterinarians performed post mortem next day and viscera sample was taken. Later, the carcasss was cremated in presence of veterinarians and senior forest officers.

Later during investigation of death of leopardess led to recovery of flesh and bone on farm of Dnyaneshwar Maruti Bharsakre (50, resident of Nayakund). The farmer further told assistant conservator of forest of Ramtek in the statement given on October 6, 2020 that he had laced partly eaten calf of his jersey cow with thimet poison on September 29, 2020. The leopardess later consumed poisoned carcass and subsequently died. Later, the investigation officer of Ramtek R D Shende arrested accused and produced him before the court of judicial magistrate first class of Parseoni.

Range forest officer Shende, round officer D R Agde of Ramtek, round officer Ms M M Gonmare of Patgowari, forest guards S S Rathod (Kanhan), S N Kerwar (Adegaon) and S J Tekam (Patgowari) are investigating further under the guidance of deputy conservator of forest of Nagpur forest division Dr Prabhu Nath Shukla and assistant conservator of forest Sandeep Giri of Ramtek.
