Nagpur, Mar 7

A home is made by people and not walls and roof and this has been made possible by Pallavi Humnabadkar, who has been serving the senior citizens, who are in their old age with smile and compassion. Pallavi has become their support, guide, mentor, daughter, daughter-in-law and any other role, which she has to undertake for them. She is taking care of all them through their sickness, loneliness and other adversities.

Away from publicity and a just a bit active on social media, Pallavi has found her mojo, in serving the old age people. ‘Samadhaan’ a normal house in Pioneer Society in Somalwada, houses people, but it is just not any other old age home, but a centre which provides care, compassion, humanity support to the elderly, who are in the last stage of their lives, left by their own family members due to various reasons, but handled by Pallavi and her husband in Nagpur. Her husband Sujit, had a job in Mumbai, but with an intention to do something different, both came to Nagpur to find their purpose in life. The center house people from different background and strata and some are from very affluent families as wells as retired from prestigious jobs. Pallavi is taking care of all with passion and care adorning various roles.

Terminally ill people , suffering from cancer, alzymer, mental illness, paralysis, accidental cases are being taken care of. Senior citizens from normal houses are also staying their as they do not have anyone at home to take care of them. There is no age limit at the Centre, nurse attendants are their, renowned doctors are available for service.

Special attention during Covid

Pallavi said sometimes it becomes difficult, as the elderly needs medical attention, and then we only have to take care of them. During Covid, it was not easy to take care of elderly, but we took care of them taking utmost precaution. My 10 year old daughter Sanika and my husband Sujit also willingly and lovingly support all.

Hobbies, celebrations and fun

We ensure that we have all the games, right from Chess to carom board, card games, musical instruments for the elderly, she added. Pallavi said that we live as family celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and all other festivals.

From Goa to Nagpur

People find happiness in anything. Mira is one lady, who finds happiness is serving elderly. She came all the way from Goa to serve the elderly. She takes care of their choices, food habits and other things and has been dubbed as ‘Annaporna’ of the centre. Without any blood relation, she has devoted her life towards serving others.

‘Come her, you will get ‘Samadhan’

Retired form very high post from railways, Yashwant Kothekar stays in Samadhan. He lost his wife a few years back, had a flat in Dhantoli, which he sold does not have children and is staying in Samadhaan and says that “They are my son and daughter-in-law and you will not get this kind of satisfaction anywhere else,” this is my home, he added.
