‘Positivity, determination helped us overcome Covid’

Nagpur, April 23

When most of the senior citizens loose hope while battling ailments, the Mitra couple proved that faith and determination can move mountains. Covid has taken a toll on individuals, families, businesses and the nation as a whole, but the will to live and win has kept humanity going.

Ex-army man turned banker, Mr Ashim Kumar Mitra and his better half, Mrs Archana Mitra, who was a school teacher contracted Covid during the second wave in the month of March.

Their children being far away from them during this crisis as one stays in Delhi and the other overseas. Narrating her experience Archana Mitra said, “It was a testing time for everyone, we got a little scared, but we stayed positive and resilient. Our daughter’s friends helped us immensely. They arranged for tele-consulting with a doctor and also arranged for a doctor to visit us to administer injections which was required for my husband. My children were in constant touch with us and the doctors. We never felt alone in the time of crisis. Also, we don’t have enough words of gratitude for our neighbors, who stood with us through this testing time. They made sure warm food reached our doorstep everyday”! She added, “Thanks to near and dear ones, who helped with timely supplies, medicines, fruits and most importantly the care and moral support. It was phenomenal.”

She recalls, “The most frightening thing for me was when my husband had to go alone for the HR CT scan and blood test. She added, “I didn’t have to go through this as my symptoms were milder and was I was happy with the guidance of the doctor over the phone. Our children never let us feel that we are fighting this alone. Especially my grand daughter and grandson kept our spirits high with their constant video calls.”

Speaking about his state of mind during the infection. Ashim Kumar Mitra said, “At first, I got a little worried but immediately got assured that help is just a phone call away or next door as well. He said, “As a couple, we kept a positive attitude and strictly adhered to all the Covid protocols and instructions, which we got from our doctor. And also followed well-intentioned advice regarding food from family and well-wishers. We did not feel alone for a single moment and neither negative or depressing thoughts ever crossed our minds. We were eating healthy, taking all the medicines regularly, and taking enough rest”.

Our advice to everyone is, do not panic, have faith, don’t self-medicate and follow the instructions of the doctor like a bible. I also would like to extend our gratitude to the frontline workers who helped us tide these tough times. I would also urge people not to lower their guard and get vaccinated.”

We all shall sail through this!
