Postal department gets 1 lakh more accounts in 7 months

Nagpur, Oct 12

About one lakh accounts have increased in Department of Posts since the beginning of lockdown to September in Vidarbha region. With this increase, the total number of accounts reached 36 lakhs. The department has opened 142 new post office in Naxal infested Gadchiroli. This has raised the total number of post office to 3600 in the region. About 1000 village dak sevaks were also appointed in two phases.

The department had taken a lot of initiative to connect the people with various savings schemes, including the withdrawal and deposit of funds to the villagers to far-flung areas. As a result, there was an increase of 2 per cent in total accounts, or about 1 lakh new accounts. Apart from the above information, the postmaster general of Vidarbha region, Ramchandra Jaybhaye, said that now people can open accounts of PPF, Senior Citizen and Monthly Income Scheme in post offices of villages. He said that in the future there will also be the facility of term insurance through post offices. This year, 54904 passport applications were processed in the Nagpur Lok Sabha constituency through the Passport Seva Kendra till March 31.

Other achievements from April to September 30

-Transactions worth Rs 121.64 crore were made through Aadhaar linked payment service.

-7.50 lakh bank accounts of IPPB have been opened so far in Nagpur region.

-28 villages were added under Sukanya scheme in Nagpur region.

-216 villages have joined as insurance villages.

Postal week being celebrated

National Postal Week is being celebrated by the Department of Posts from October 9 to October 15. On this occasion, Pawan Kumar Dalmia, director of Postal Service, Nagpur, flagged off the official vehicle for the promotion of various schemes. Assistant director Shasheen Rai and PMG Ramchandra Jaybhaye were present on the occasion.
