Rs 11.72 cr for additional 400 beds in GMC, HC informed

The State government has taken decision to increase 400 HDU beds for coronavirus patients at Government Medical College and Hospital. `11,72,55,000 will be spent on this work. The district level committee has given approval to proposal of this amount.

District collector Ravindra Thakre gave this information to the Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court on Wednesday. He filed an affidavit in this regard. The court had opined that instead of creating temporary facility for coronavirus patients, facilities in government hospitals should be increased. The court had said that if such is done, the additional facilities will be usefull in future.

The State government took decision to increase 400 HDU beds for coronavirus patients in Government Medical College and Hospital. Accordingly, dean of GMC submitted a proposal of `11,72,55,000 during a meeting of district level committee. `6,32,55,000 will be required for purchasing medical equipment for 400 HDU beds, `70 lakh for minor construction and electrification, `1.70 crore for medical oxygen gas pipeline and `3 crore for procurement of medicines and other materials. This fund will be given from District Planning Committee’s provision, said district collector.

Nine times rise in number

of patients in 45 days

There were 8,406 patients in district upto August 8. But number of patients increased nine times within one and half month only. The total number of patients was 78,012 upto September 30. On an average 1,700 patients were found every day in last week of September. Similarly, 292 patients had died in district upto August 8. This number went to 2,510 upto September 30. This information was given in affidavit of district collector.
