Scorpio smuggling foreign liquor intervened, 2 nabbed, two escape

The rural police intercepted a Scorpio SUV in Bollywood style smuggling foreign liquor from Madhya Pradesh into Nagpur. The police on checkpost intervened a Scorpio SUV and asked it to halt, but the driver speeded away.

The police chased the Scorpio SUV and blocked its way near Bihad junction on Saoner-Pandurna Road and conducted a thorough search of the vehicle and found cartons of foreign liquor.

The police questioned and arrested Irfan Mustafa Khan (33, resident of Kabir Ward, Hinganghat, district Wardha) and Akash Ravindra Sonakar (23, Kailasnagar, Nagpur) were arrested while Gulshan Paunikar (30, resident of Shivaji Ward, Hinganghat, district Wardha) and Surendra alias Sanju Taywade (40, resident of Pandurna, Madhya Pradesh) managed to escape. The police seized foreign liquor worth `1.92 lakh and the Scorpio SUV valued at `5 lakhs.

When asked the accused about it, two of them escaped, while the other two were arrested.

According to information the police had got a tip-off that, foreign liquor is being smuggled into Nagpur by a Scorpio SUV MH32-C-7187. The police had done nakabandi on a checkpost near Khursapar forest area. When the Scorpio approached the checkpost, it was asked to stop but it speeded away. Station officer Suresh Mattami informed that total foreign liquor and Scorpio was collectively worth `6.92 lakhs. The Kelwad police carried out the operation under the guidance of police sepoy Rajendra Rewatkar and are investigating the matter further.
