'Start regular training gradually post lockdown'

Nagpur, June 5

Director of Department of Sports and Physical Education of RTM Nagpur University and Nagpur District Amateru Athletics Association secretary Dr Sharad Suryavanshi advised the athletes to start their regular training gradually post lockdown. He was speaking during the concluding function of the virtual athletics training camp organised by Shakuntala Sports Foundation.

Speaking further Dr Suryavanshi said if the athlees are doing physical exercises at their homes to maintain physical fitness they shold not be in a hurry to start the training actual on the field. It may result in injury. After lockdown, the athletes should give the stress on various kind of physical exercises including fartlek running, zumba, yoga, event drill, aerobics etc. In the first three weeks they should concentrate only on these things. After three weeks the athletes can go for long-distance running.

Dr Suryavanhi said since this is not the season of competitions the athletes should avoid sprinting. If the athlete become overweight during lockdown period then he or she should give importance to weight reduction exercises. They should avoid weight training in first six weeks and do maximum exercises without using spikes in the shose. NDAA president Gurudas Nagrale presided over the session. He said the athletes took enough precautions during lockdown and they should continue to do it post lockdown also. In future, they should enter the field by wearing marks but at the same time, they should avoid using it during training. Joint secretary of NDAA Archana Kottewar also spoke on the occasion. Senior athlete of the foundation Aishwarya Badhekar conducted the proceedings. Covener of the camp Ramchandra Wani made introductory remarks while Rahul Kalbandhe proposed a vote of thanks.
