Strike of Ayurved doctors end, govt accepts demands

Nagpur, Oct 14

The 140 resident doctors serving coronavirus patients stopped work by going on strike suddenly for various demands. Not only this, they started stir in Ayurved college and hospital also. This strike going on from last eight days was finally withdrawn following decision held in State Cabinet meeting on Wednesday. The agitating doctors will hold discussions with district collector on local issues on Thursday and submit letter about joining duty back.

In the backdrop of stir, decisions to hike stipend by `10,000 and accept other demands were taken during Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday. Following this, Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors announced withdrawal of strike.

The resident doctors in Government Ayurved Medical College and Hospital had announced no work stir from October 7 for various demands like increase of `10,000 in stipend, relaxation from duty due to upcoming exams, pending stipend of four months and others. The resident doctors were giving covid service at Mayo, Medical and other places during stir period. They also did chain hunger strike for their demands during last eight days also. Ayurved doctors in state and district also supported them and started no work stir. Following this, the State government took decision on this issue.

Reacting to this, president of Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors Dr Sumit Marathe said, "The government had to bow down before unity of doctors. Our demands were justified. The government has taken to increase stipend but some local issues need to be clarified. We never refused covid duty. Our demands was that Ayurved doctors should also get facilities. None was in mood to listen us due to which stir had to be done."
