Teacher, non-teaching staff have to pay full fees of children

The state government has given a major blow to the teachers and non-teaching staff in private secondary and higher secondary of the aided institutions. The state government has amended the 1995 GR and now the teaching and non-teaching staff will have to pay full fees of their children from Std 1 upto post-graduation. In return, the state government will pay them between Rs 3,000 to Rs 8,000.

According to information received by Lokmat Times, the government may have to face agitation from the teachers and non-teaching staff, due to the decision. Due to the decision, teachers and non-teaching staff may face difficulties in getting their children to get higher and professional education in reputed institutions.

According to the 1995 government ordinance, the state government used to refund the school fees of the children of teachers and non-teaching staff. They used to get free education. Due to the proposed amendment, only a nominal amount will be refunded to the staff.

However, the government has not given any concrete reason behind the decision. According to the teachers, the government does not want to bear the expenses of the education of the children of teachers and non-teaching staff. This is the reason why the Government Ordinance of 1995 has been amended by the government and proposed a new decision, which is totally wrong.

According to sources earlier also, the government had tried to do such thing, but the teachers and non-teaching staff had approached the court against this.

After the court’s decision, the state government was required to reimburse the fees of the children of teachers and non-teaching staff. Sources said that government wants to cut down on the expenditure and hence the proposed amendment.

‘We will protest’

Convenor of Maharashtra State Teachers Council Yogesh Ban said that the government will repent this decision. The fees for engineering and medical courses have increased significantly. It is not right to give only Rs,6,000 or Rs 8,000 instead of fees refund. The government will have to cancel this GR. If this is not done then we will sit on agitation.

It is backstabbing

BJP Shikshak Aghadi’s Anil Shivankar said that this decision of the government is like cheating with teachers and non-teaching staff of privately aided schools and colleges. The state government should immediately withdraw the decision.
