Two goons throw petrol bomb at petrol pump

In a dispute involving just `20, two goons tried to set the fire to the petrol pump by throwing petrol bomb in broad daylight. The incident took place on Saturday afternoon at Rajalakshmi Petrol Pump at Telephone Exchange Square.

A major tragedy was averted as the fire was doused-off immediately. Lakadganj police have arrested accused Omkar Bhaurao Tale (44) resident of NIT Garden, Shastri Nagar and Suraj Ramesh Dahake (23) resident of Jaibheem Chowk, Hivri Nagar.

Suraj is a murder accused, while Omkar is a bootlegger. Both of them came to the petrol pump at 2.30 pm and asked employee Swapnil Kumbhare to fill petrol of `40 in the bike. Swapnil poured petrol worth `60. The accused started arguing with Swapnil. They did not even wear a mask and spitted in front of machine. The accused started assaulting Swapnil for asking them to wear a mask. Swapnil’s colleagues intervened and resolved the matter.

Both the accused then rushed to a petrol pump in Wardhman Nagar. They purchased `50 petrol in a bottle from there and again came to Rajalakshmi Petrol Pump. They made a wick using bandage and inserted it in the petrol bottle, then they lit and threw the petrol bomb towards dispensing machines.

As they threw the bomb from a distance, it fell away from dispensing machine. A tanker was getting emptied in the underground petrol tank. Due to the sudden attack the employees of petrol pump got panicked, but managed to douse the fire.

They immediately extinguished the fire and major tragedy was averted. Meanwhile, the accused fled the scene. As soon as PI Parag Potay of Lakadganj police station got information, he immediately swung into action.

They arrested the accused by tracing their bike number. A case should also be registered against the petrol pump owner, who gave petrol in the bottle to the accused.
