Two masterminds of cricket betting held

Amravati police had raided a den of cricket betting and arrested four persons. After coming to know their Nagpur connection, Amravati police came to Nagpur and nabbed two persons on Saturday, it has been learnt.

The names of two accused persons arrested from Nagpur are Sumit Shankar Nagwani (35, resident of Flat No. 204, Piramid City, Jaripatka) and Rocky Rameshlal Alwani (33, resident of Jaripatka). It has become clear that these are masterminds of cricket betting den in Amravati. A team of Amravati Crime Branch also seized two expensive cellphones from them. A two-day PCR has been obtained for two accused persons.

The cricket bookies in Nagpur created their network in almost all districts in Vidarbha after IPL cricket season. Bookies at every centre are being controlled by bookies in Nagpur. After receiving information that cricket betting racket was going on in one flat of Awghad in Rageshri Apartment in Vishram Nagar near Sai Nagar coming under Kholapuri Gate Police Station in Amravati city, cops raided on October 8 night and arrested four persons. Betting materials worth `6,65,290 were seized from them. Cops had arrested Ramesh Suganchand Katariya (41) and Avinash Vijaykumar Premchandani (46), both residents of Vaidya Nagar, Sindhi Camp, Arni Road, Yavatmal), Akash Raju Virkhede (24, resident of Ekta Nagar, Waghapur, Yavatmal) and Rajkumar Ishwarlal Gehi (40, resident of Sindhi Camp, Akola). Cops had seized `59,460, 12 cellphones, four wheeler, two wheeler and laptop collectively worth `6,65,290. As Suresh Mahadavrao Awghad made his flat available for IPL betting den, offence was lodged against flat owner and main accused under various sections.
