1993 Mumbai blast accused Yusuf Memon, brother of Tiger Memon dies in custody


Yousuf Memon (age 54), accused in the 1993 Mumbai Bomb Blast case, is reported to have died in jail. Yusuf Memon was the brother of Tiger Memon Yakub Memon, the main accused in the Mumbai attacks. Yusuf was rushed to a civil hospital after suffering a concussion. However, it is understood that he died while undergoing treatment. Yusuf Memon was convicted in the year 2007 and was handed life sentence. 

He was initially  in Mumbai's Arthur Road Jail and was shifted to Nashik Jail in 2018. On March 12, 1993, a total of 12 places were bombed in Mumbai. The blast killed 257 people. 713 were injured. The blasts took place at Stock Exchange, Narsi Nath Street, Shiv Sena Bhavan, Century Bazaar, Mahim, Zaveri Bazaar, Sea Rock Hotel, Plaza Cinema, Juhu Central Hall, Airport and Airport Central Hotel. A total of 12 such bomb blasts in a span of just two hours have caused damage to property worth Rs 27 crore.
