Alcohol bottle helps police nab murder accused

A murder accused who killed a 33-year old bar waitress in Dahisar was caught by the police after the cops noted the bottle's batch number and zeroed in on the buyer. Swapan Roidas a jewellery worker was tracked down to Kolkata arrested and brought to Mumbai on Thursday. The accused confessed the murder and claimed that the deceased was blackmailing him due to which he had to take such a drastic step. Rosina Shaikh was found dead on December 29, and autopsy reports could not conclude the cause of the death. While searching for evidence, the cops came across glasses and a bottle of green apple vodka. 

Speaking about the same, a police officer said, "It was a brand we weren't familiar with so we got the batch number and went around in wine shops in Dahisar to find out which shop had sticked this batch, we got a confirmation from Smita Wines.'' Post that investigators examined CCTV footage from the shop. "The suspect was seen entering Shaikh's building and he was the same person who brought vodka from Smita Wines.'' The police then went through Shaikh's cellphone records and used technical investigation tools to track down his location.

The accused also ransacked the victim's house after killing Rosina and left with two mangalsutras, anklets, four rings, gold bracelet, nose pin, four cellphones, Rs.1,2 lakh     in cash and even her house keys as per police reports. The accused is married with both children and his wife in Bengal being completely unaware of the murder. Roidas and Shaikh met each other in a bar three years ago in a bar were she was working as a waitress. The duo grew close to each other. Roidas claimed that whenever he brought her money he was treated well but if he failed to pay, she would hurl abuses and threatened to expose their affair to his wife.The police suspect the two fought over money and Roidas strangled her with a pillow and towel. He also confirmed that he used the stolen cash from her house to buy a flight ticket to Kolkata and fled after committing the crime.
