New Delhi, March 5 A Chinese national living in a high-rise residential building in Greater Noida created quite a stir on Thursday over his fear of coronavirus, following which health staff from a hospital near his residence tried to talk him out of his fear.

Noida Chief Medical Officer Anurag Bhargava said the foreigner's fears about COVID-19 were irrational.

"His action is totally irrational. How can he test positive? It has been more than 28 days since he has come to India on February 2. He is doing fine. He is undergoing treatment though he doesn't require it," the CMO said.

The Chinese national had reportedly locked himself up in his flat. Thereafter, residents in his locality called the hospital nearby, which sent its staff to make efforts to convince him on the issue.

Details of the incident were awaited.

A total of 29 confirmed cases of novel coronavirus have so far been reported in India.
