Cyber cell shuts down 500 websites that promote obscene and hate content

The Delhi Police Cyber ​​Cell has shut down almost 500 websites for promoting obscene and hate related content. Based on the complaints received by the Home Ministry's Cyber ​​Crime Prevention Against Women and Children (CCPWC) and Cyber ​​Cell, about 50 cyber criminals have been sent behind bars in the last 18 months. According to sources of the Delhi Police Cyber ​​Cell working under the Ministry of Home Affairs, and action is being taken against many more websites. The line of action  also include URLs for many social media posts which are being run by banned organizations in other countries.

The banned organizations with the help of local sleeper cells, have created thousands of such accounts on social media, which serve offensive, anti-national and anti-social content. The Cyber ​​Cell is identifying all such accounts and are in the process of taking strict action in order to shut them down.  According to Anish Roy, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Cyber Crime, action is being taken in collaboration with the operators of the respective social networks to shut down objectionable social networking sites. Continuing further, he said,this is an ongoing process and the cyber cell is keeping a close eye on social media all the time. Over 500 such URLs have been banned in the last 18 months. Legal action has also been taken against about 50 accused in this regard. However in these cases the arrest of the accused and further legal action depends entirely on the complainant.
