Delhi violence: Former Congress Councillor sent to 14 days of judicial custody for giving hate speech

Ishrat Jahan, a former Congress Municipal Councillor, has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days for allegedly trying to incite people during the northeast Delhi riots by giving provocative speeches. 

Ishrat Jahan is also accused of being involved in jamming of Khureji Khas road last Sunday. Earlier on Friday (February 28), a Delhi court rejected the bail plea of ​​former Congress corporator Ishrat Jahan, arrested in connection with the violence over the revised citizenship law in northeast Delhi.

As the crackdown on rioters is underway, the Delhi Police has so far arrested 23 people for inciting riots in the national capital while hundreds have taken under preventive detention.

Normalcy is also slowly returning to the riot-hit Northeast Delhi after protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) turned violent killing earlier in the week killing at least 42 people. A total of 148 FIRs have been registered so far.
