Farmers protest: Many BJP leaders set to resign from party, tweets farmer leader Naresh Tikait

Farmer unions continue to protest on the borders of Delhi since November 26 demanding repeal of three new farm laws.

It should be noted that Virk Khurd gram panchayat in Bathinda has decided to send at least one member of each family to farmers' protest at Delhi borders for a week.
"Those who won't go to protest will be fined Rs 1,500 & those not paying fine will be boycotted," said Sarpanch Manjit Kaur. More farmers from Uttar Pradesh have also joined the protest at Delhi borders after Rakesh Tikait made a series of 'emotional statements' on Thursday. Against this backdrop, a tweet by farmer leader Naresh Tikait is likely to increase BJP's tension. 

Farmer leader Naresh Tikait on Friday tweeted,"I have received calls from some BJP leaders today. "We are resigning from the BJP," they said. We cannot see the farmers being insulted like this by staying in the party. If we remain silent now, the next generation will never be able to forgive us, "he tweeted.

The government had held 12 rounds of negotiations with protesting farmers and the matter has not yet resolved.

Farmers have been protesting at the different borders of the national capital since November 26 last year against the three newly enacted farm laws - Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Farmers Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and farm Services Act 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
