A passenger plane has dumped fuel over several schools as it made an emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport.

More than 60 people, including over a dozen elementary school children, received medical treatment after a plane dropped jet fuel on Los Angeles schools, BBC reported.

The children and adults treated following the dumping incident were connected with at least six local schools. All the injuries are said to be minor.

Just after the Delta flight dumped fuel on a school ground, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) released a statement on Twitter stating that they are investigating into the matter.

"The FAA is thoroughly investigating the circumstances behind today's incident involving a Delta Air Lines flight that was returning to Los Angeles International Airport", the statement read.

"There are some special fuel-dumping procedures for aircraft operating into and out of any major US airport", they added further.

Many videos are doing the rounds on the Internet in which it is clearly visible that how Delta flight appearing to dump fuel over a primary school before landing in LA.

A user on the micro-blogging site Twitter wrote, "@FAANews has continued to prove it cannot be trusted with its core mission of protecting people both in the air and on the ground."

"Nice. the plane wasn't carrying nuclear waste. FAA is a silent spectator as always!!" another read.

A post read, "They couldn't have possibly chosen a worse spot to dump fuel. I understand it was an emergency but unbelievable that they couldn't see exactly what they were above...."

A Tweeple remarked, "I live near 'ground zero'. Kids were crying and scared af. Many treated for skin irritation, headaches, eye irritations. It hit multiple schools. This is utter incompetence. The news isn't portraying how bad it actually was. My entire city reeked of jet fumes."
