Live updates: SC closes contempt case against Rahul Gandhi, relief to Modi govt on Rafale deal

The Supreme Court , while giving a decision on the review petition on the case related to the entry of women in the Sabarimala temple in Kerala , has sent it to the bench of 7 judges. The five-judge bench of the Supreme Court pronounced the verdict with a 3:2 majority. The Supreme Court will also give its decision today on the review petitions of its decision to give a clean chit to the government in the Rafale deal. Apart from this, the apex court can also pronounce judgment in the contempt case pending against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his remarks 'Chowkidar Chor Hai'  on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Rafale case.

Decision on Rafael case
The Supreme Court will give its verdict today on the petitions seeking review of its decision which gave clean chit to the Modi government on the Rafale deal. The review petitioners were filed by former Union Ministers - Yashwant Sinha, Arun Shourie, and activist-lawyer Prashant Bhushan, among others against the SC judgement. Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and KM Joseph had completed the hearing on May 10 on this politically sensitive matter.

The Supreme Court's decision on the entry of women into the Sabarimala temple can come at 10.30 am. Entry of women between 10 and 50 years of age is prohibited in the Sabarimala temple. In this regard, a Constitution Bench headed by the then Chief Justice Dipak Misra gave a 4-1 decision on September 28, 2018, calling it unconstitutional and sexually biased.
