Maha govt appoints Parambir Singh as Police Commissioner of Mumbai

Maharashtra government appointed Parambir Singh as Mumbai Police Commissioner on Saturday. Singh, a 1988 batch IPS officer, was posted as Director General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) before becoming Commissioner of Police of Mumbai. Singh replaces Sanjay Barve, who retired on Saturday.

The Maharashtra government on Friday said that Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Barve would not be given extension of service. Barve is scheduled to retire on Saturday. State Home Minister Anil Deshmukh gave this information to reporters and did not disclose who would replace Barve.

Barve is a 1987 batch Indian Police Service officer and has been given service extension twice during his tenure. He took office on 28 February 2019. Sources said Deshmukh will meet Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Friday after which the name of the new Police Commissioner will be announced.
