MORTH: Check out new Traffic fines for different violations

Traffic fines makes everyone wary and that’s probably why they’re even introduced in the first place. With the aim to enhance road safety, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has come up with new traffic fines and violation penalties.

Check out the Traffic Fines for Different Violations: 

• If you are caught speeding or racing: A fine of Rs 5,000 for the first offence and/or imprisonment from 3 months and fine up to Rs.10,000 for a second offence along with/ or imprisonment up to 1 year.
• Driving under influence of intoxicating substances: Under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicle Act states that the punishment of this offence would be a fine of ₹10,000 and/or 6-months prison for the first offence would be levied and a fine of ₹15,000 and/or 2-years prison for subsequent offence would be levied.

• Under the new traffic rules, the driver has to keep documents related to the vehicle in soft copy format. This system will help to reduce the burden of carrying document all the time. Driver can how soft copy of a license if they are asked by traffic police.

Road Safety Rules 2020

• Driving/Riding without Licence (for Aggregators): Under the new law, people who violate the driving license rules will be fined Rs 1 lakh. 
• Juvenile Offences: ₹25,000 with 3-years prison, cancellation of registration for 1-year, juvenile ineligible for licence until 25 years of age.
• Under the New Traffic Rules, now, those who are driving/riding while on the Mobile (Handheld) a fine of ₹5,000 will be charged.
• While dangerous driving/riding and jumping red light will have to pay ₹1,000- ₹5,000 and/or 6-months to 1 year in prison, licence seizure.
