Onion prices have gone up significantly in Nagpur and Bhopal making it tough for the common man. A Nagpur shopkeeper said, "The price of onions has gone up to Rs 70 -80 per kilogram, Due to this fewer people are buying onions, which is affecting sales.'' Meanwhile, the cost of onions in Bhopal has touched Rs.100 and prices are unlikely to come down. One of shopkeepers claimed that everyday prices of onions are increasing by 5 to 10 Rs. He further said that some farmers are selling onions in the hope of earning more profits which may be a contributing factor to the price hike.

It was not too long ago that a heartwrenching video of a helpless farmer crying over the low price he received from his sale of onions had taken social media by storm. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra attacked the government and asked, ”What is the plight of farmers under the BJP government? To stop the rising prices of onions, they are being imported, but our farmers do not get the right price for their onions which they have grown with their hard work.''
