Three of family held for targeting elderly jeweller

New Delhi, Jan 12 Three members of a family, the mother, daughter and son, have been arrested by Delhi Poice for targeting an elderly jeweller and fleeing with a jewellery box by diverting his attention. The incident was captured in CCTV camera and the footage helped the police nab the offenders.

The incident took place on December 25 when a senior citizen, who runs a jewellery shop in Chattarpur Enclave-2 in south Delhi, told the police that two women came to his shop and asked him to show earrings. He showed them some earrings and after sometime they left the shop.

Later the man found that one box of earrings was missing. On watching the CCTV footage, it was revealed that the two women had stolen the jewellery box having gold weighing 50 gm.

On analysing the CCTV footages of nearby spots, it was revealed that the women came on a metallic red Scooty with a male accused, who was waiting outside the shop.

The police then chased the Scooty with the help of CCTV footages. After travelling for around 15 km, it was revealed that the Scooty crossed the border to Gurugram and reached Sikanderpur, only to mislead the police.

The police then checked more CCTV footages and took the help of human intelligence to finally trace the Scooty to F Block in Madangiri. All the three accused Mithlesh (55), her daughter Durgesghwari and son Chirag were arrested from Madangiri.

"On interrogation it was revealed that the entire family of the accused has criminal record, including charges of murder, robbery, snatching and thefts. The Scooty used in committing the crime and the jewellery have been recovered from their possession," said Atul Thakur, DCP, south Delhi.

Seven pairs of gold ear rings, one gold mangalsutra, one gold bangle and one gold ring were recovered from the accused.
