Western India remains most optimistic

: Amid the coronavirus pandemic, which has wrecked havoc in the country, a whopping 73.8 per cent of people in Western India believed that the worst is over, and the prevailing situation will begin to improve soon.

New Delhi, April 11 : Amid the coronavirus pandemic, which has wrecked havoc in the country, a whopping 73.8 per cent of people in Western India believed that the worst is over, and the prevailing situation will begin to improve soon.

The percentage is staggering as Maharashtra in Western India accounts for the highest number of Covid-19 cases and death toll in the country.

Surprisingly, Eastern India, where the number of positive Covid-19 cases is less than other states, fared worst on the optimism yardstick. A total of 31.9 per cent people stated that the worst is yet to come while only 50.1 per cent were actually optimistic about the incumbent situation.

Interestingly, the optimism is the highest in semi-urban areas, which comprises mostly middle-class people. People in rural areas rode high on the optimism metre and fared better than those in urban areas.

The percentage came out in a survey conducted from April 4-6 by C-Voter Covid Tracker.

The findings and projections are based on a daily tracking poll on CATI, conducted during the last seven days among 18+ adults nationwide.

The Tracking Poll Fieldwork covered random probability samples during the last seven days from the release date. The sample spread is across all Assembly segments across all states. The sample size is 1,114.
