Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Suresh Raina pulled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) citing “personal reasons." A lot of rumours have been doing the rounds on Raina's sudden exit. The development came as a major blow for CSK franchise as Suresh Raina has been a mainstay in the CSK batting line-up. Raina had trained with the franchise in Chennai before departing for UAE. CSK CEO KS Viswanathan said Suresh Raina has returned to India for personal reasons and will be unavailable for the remainder of the IPL season. Chennai Super Kings offers complete support to Suresh and his family during this time.

Australia fast bowler Kane Richardson pulled out of the RCB squad before the IPL 2020 as his wife is expecting the birth of their first child. The former Rajasthan Royals pacer, admitted that it was a difficult decision to withdraw from a mega T20 league like IPL.Richardson said that before pulling out of the RCB squad he sat down and thought about it. He also added that due to the pandemic situation it might have turned out difficult for him to return home in the middle of the season. The fast bowler maintained that he is disappointed but hopes to get his chance in near future.

Chris Woakes pulled out of the IPL to keep himself fit for international summer. In December 2019, Woakes was acquired by Delhi Capitals for his base price of INR 1.5 crore in the players’ auction. But later, the England pacer announced that he will not be playing in the IPL. The Capitals then roped in, South Africa pacer Anrich Nortje to replace England’s Chris Woakes. Nortje was with Kolkata Knight Riders during the 2019 season, but he suffered a shoulder injury cut that ruled him out of the competition and he could not make his IPL debut.

The destructive opener from England backed out after he sustained an injury during practice. He was to take part in the T20 series vs Pakistan but with the injury he sustained, the Englishman had to back out from the IPL as well since he wasn’t going to recover in time. The franchise later named Daniel Sams as their replacement. Sams comes on the back of an impressive Big Bash League for Sydney Thunders last season. He had finished with 30 wickets to catch the national selector's attention.

Nottinghamshire fast bowler Harry Gurney was ruled out of the Indian Premier League due to a shoulder injury. Gurney, who represented Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL and picked up seven wickets in eight games, is scheduled to undergo an operation next month.The left-arm pacer confirmed to ESPNcricinfo that he would not be travelling to the UAE to join KKR for this season's IPL which is slated to start from September 19.

Harbhajan Singh, veteran India and Chennai Super Kings off-spinner, became the second player after Suresh Raina to opt out of the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League on Friday. Harbhajan took to Twitter to reveal that he will not be featuring in this year's IPL due to personal reasons. The off-spinner said these are difficult times with coronavirus cases rapidly increasing in the country and urged his fans to give him some privacy as he looks to spend time with his family.

One of the most successful bowlers of the IPL, Lasith Malinga announced his decision to miss the upcoming Indian Premier League 2020 for personal reasons. The pacer, made himself unavailable for personal reasons and to "be with family back home in Sri Lanka. Malinga, the leading wicket-taker of the IPL, made his IPL debut in 2009. Last year, defending 9 runs for their fourth title, he helped MI to the title, conceding just 7 to give them a one-run win against Chennai Super Kings off the last ball. In 122 matches, he has returned 170 wickets, at an average of 19.80 and an economy rate of 7.14. The franchise signed Australian pacer James Pattinson as a replacement for the bowler.
