Happy Birthday Madhu Sapre: Interesting facts about India's most controversial model and beauty queen

Born on July 14, 1971 in Nagpur, Madhu Sapre was known for her bold and sexy looks.

In the 1990s, Sapre was an athlete who rose to fame when she started modeling at a very young age. As Miss India she represented India at the 1992 Miss Universe pageant, where she was the 2nd runner up.

In the 90's, celebrity photographer Gautam Rajadhyaksh caught Madhu's eye and selected her for a photoshoot.

Madhu did a photoshoot at the age of 19 and after that she decided to venture into modelling.

Madhu, who established herself as a model, won the Miss India title in 1992 and was one of the prime candidates for the Miss Universe crown.

Sapre currently lives in Riccione, a small town on the east coast of Italy with her husband, Italian businessman Gian Maria Emendatori and shuttles between India and Italy.They have a daughter together named Indira.

An advertisement for honey spray was well debated. In 1995, a shoe company had created a nude advertisement with Madhu and Milind Soman. This ad was counted among the most controversial ads ever.

Madhu and Milind were nude in the ad. It was a photoshoot with boots on the feet and a dragon around the neck. There was a huge controversy over this nude ad. Mumbai Police had also registered a case against Madhu and Milind in August 1995.

The use of dragons was also criticized in the advertisement. An offense was also filed against the concerned advertising company under the Wildlife Protection Act. The lawsuit was settled out of court 14 years ago. Finally, after 14 years, both Milind and Madhu were acquitted.

Madhu Sapre married in the year 2001, She met Emendatori through mutual friends while he was in India on a holiday.

She has also acted in the 2003 film Boom which was the debut film of actress Katrina Kaif produced by Jackie Shroff and Ayesha Shroff.
