Irrfan's real name is Sahabzade Irfan Ali Khan. He was born to a Muslim Pathan family on January 7, 1967, in Jaipur, Rajasthan. His father was the late Jagirdar Khan from Khajuria village near the Tonk district. His mother, Begum Khan belonged to the Tonk Hakim family. Irrfan Khan’s father ran a tyre business.

Irrfan's initial dream was to become a cricketer but his parents weren't keen about it. It was only after he earned a scholarship in NSD that he decided to pursue his career in acting.

When Irrfan first arrived in Mumbai, he worked as an air-conditioner repairman. Reportedly, it is even said that one of the first houses he visited for the repairing services was that of legendary actor, Rajesh Khanna.

Bagging a Hollywood film is a huge deal for any actor but when renowned director Christopher Nolan offered Irrfan a substantial role in the movie Interstellar, he was forced to turn it down as he was already committed to two of his projects, Lunch Box and D Day.

A TV regular from 1994 to 1998, Irrfan was so bored at one point in time that he thought of quitting. Had it not been for Asif Kapadia's 'Warrior', Irrfan would have probably quit acting and descended into oblivion

It is well-known that Irrfan essayed the character of Masrani in 2015’s ‘Jurrasic World’. The character was pivotal to the film and Irrfan’s performance was also praised by both Indian and International audiences. Irrfan had revealed it previously that though he has acted in a Jurrasic Park franchisal movie in 2015, he shared a connection with the franchise way before during his struggling days in the industry. The actor had revealed that he wished to watch the first Jurrasic Park film in 1993 but did not have the money to do so.
