Sunny Deol who is riding high on the mega success of his film Gadar 2, has altogether a different tale and statistics to tell as a Member of Parliament (MP). The Gurdaspur MP, who had won from the seat in the 2019 general elections on a BJP ticket, has had a dismal performance as a member of parliament.

MPLAD funds is a fund that a member of parliament receives for carrying out developmental works in his/her constituency. According to reports, most of the MPLAD funds allotted to Sunny Deol for Gurdaspur constituency remains unutilised.

Sunny Deol was not present in the House during the recently concluded Monsoon Session Of Parliament, which had several important bills as well as controversial moments as the Manipur violence issue came up time and again in the House.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP did not attend the just-concluded Winter session of Parliament even as barely a year-and-a-half is left for the current Lok Sabha to end. Not that the past three-and-a-half years are much to speak of — Deol asked one question in all that time against 156, the national average of questions asked by an MP, probably creating a record of sorts.

Back in 2019, Deol was a surprise choice as the BJP candidate to take on Congress’ then MP Sunil Jakhar, who is now in the same party like his one time-rival.

However, the people of Gurdaspur seem dissatisfied with their MP, Sunny Deol. They claim that the entire area is submerged in water, yet the actor seems more focused on his film than addressing the issues faced by the people of his constituency. Deol is the Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Gurdaspur.

In 2020, 'missing' posters of Sunny Deol were seen near the railway station in Pathankot. The posters put up on the walls read - Gumshuda ki talash MP Sunny Deol (Search for missing MP Sunny Deol).

Sunny Deo won from Gurdaspur in the 2019 Lok Sabha election. Bollywood actor Vinod Khanna represented the constituency until 2017.

But his death in the same year necessitated a byelection, which Congress’s Sunil Jhakar won. Sunil Jhakhar, who has now joined the BJP, continued to be the MP from Gurdaspur till 2019

Sunny Deol's film, 'Gadar 2', is raking in money across India.
