Mandira Bedi gained recognition playing the title role in the 1994, television serial, Shanti, telecast on India's national channel, Doordarshan, and playing as a villan character in the movie Saaho.

The actress is known for her fit and smart looks and often it is her short hair style that grabs the attention.

Fans who saw in the 90s still wonder why Mandira cut her hair short. Mandira herself answered this question in a special conversation with Pinkvilla.

She said, “I was not happy with my long hair, at the same time I wanted to prove many things wrong about society." Further, she added, “I was bothered by straightening my curly hair every day, so one day I decided to go to the salon and chop my hair." The hairstylist even asked her, “Are you sure? Do you want to go this short to your hair?"

After she cut her hair short, she started getting offers for different roles. She received offers for at least 10 cops and at least 5-6 negative roles. This shows how the filmmakers decided to cast her in the role of strong modern woman. It’s been 12 years now since her hairstyle has remained the same.

Bedi married Raj Kaushal on 14 February 1999. It was announced on 27 January 2011 that the couple are expecting their first child. Bedi gave birth to a boy named Vir on 19 June 2011 at the Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai.

In 2013, Bedi and her husband had applied for adopting a girl. On 28 July 2020, they adopted a 4-year old and named her Tara Bedi Kaushal.

Kaushal died on 30 June 2021 due to cardiac arrest.

Mandira Bedi has been coping up with grief after her husband Raj Kaushal passed away in June 2021.

In an interview with PTI, Mandira Bedi opened up about how she gets her motivation to keep working from her kids.

She said, "My motivation to keep working striving and doing better... My greatest motivation is my children. Everything I do I do for them. They are my reason to carry on, my reason to live, to do better, to be better. The reason that I have the courage, strength. The reason for me to earn. I need to be a good parent for them."
