A World Health Organisation (WHO) top-level official has estimated that the vaccine against the SARS-CoV2-causing Novel Coronavirus (COVID19) would only be available in two-and-a half years time.

WHO Special Envoy on COVID19 Dr. David Nabarro also emphasised that as much as the development and worldwide availability of the vaccine is not soonest, everyone must be conscientious as well as be more responsible in practising all the protocols against the deadly contagion.

British Nabarro went on to say that no pandemic requires or needs rebels or the “rebellious.” It was based on his own personal experience in one of his commutes in France where he resides and wherein he asked a group why they were not wearing the mandatory medical face masks in public. The retort was, “We are rebels. We are not going to give in to government.”

Nabarro shared this and expressed his views on COVID19 on Monday and at the eighth annual “World Government Summit 2020,” organised by the Dubai Government since 2013 and under the patronage of His Highess Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.

Nabarro was among the resource speakers at the “Virtual Health Forum: COVID19 & Government” alongside UAE Minister of Health and Prevention AbdulRahman Bin Mohammed Al Owais, Sweden Minister of Health & Social Affairs Lena Hallengren, and Norway Minister of Health & Care Services Bent Hoie.

From the beginning, China, the United States and Europe have been making different claims about possible vaccine candidates for the corona virus. But even after the vaccine is ready, it can take about six months to test its effects and safety.

An ideal vaccine needs to be completely safe, he said. It should not have any side effects on patients. It should not be the case that the patient should be vaccinated against this disease and a new disease should emerge from it.

Currently, different countries around the world are claiming that they have developed a vaccine. But no official or concrete solution has yet been found. Such a statement from a WHO official is worrying.

Coronavirus, meanwhile, has killed more than 91 million people worldwide. More than 4 lakh 74 thousand people have lost their lives. India is now ahead of Britain in corona cases with 4 lakh 40 thousand cases. India is now ranked fourth.
