UN chief Antonio Guterres said that every 11 minutes, a woman is killed by a girl or her intimate partner or a family member.

He said violence against women was the world's biggest "human rights violation" and called on governments to implement a national action plan to tackle the problem.

The Secretary-General made these comments ahead of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on November 25. "Violence against women and girls is the biggest human rights violation in the world," Guterres said.

Every 11 minutes a woman is murdered by a girl or her intimate partner or a family member, and we know that other pressures, from the Covid-19 pandemic to economic turmoil, are undoubtedly contributing to physical and verbal abuse.

Guterres' comments came in the backdrop of the recent Shraddha Walker murder case in India which has shocked everyone. Guterres said, "This discrimination, violence and abuse targeting the former population is paying a heavy price." This is a copy of life.
