Holi is a popular ancient Hindu festival, also known as the "festival of love", the "festival of colours", and the "festival of spring".

The first evening is known as Holika Dahan (burning of demon holika) or Chhoti Holi and the following day as Dhuleti.

Holi celebrations start on the night before Holi with a Holika Dahan where people gather, perform religious rituals in front of the bonfire, and pray that their internal evil be destroyed the way Holika, the sister of the demon king Hiranyakashipu, was killed in the fire.

However, there are some places in India where Holi is not celebrated. The reasons for not playing Holi are also strange. Let's find out these places.

Holi is not been celebrated in the Kasmar Durgapur area of Bokaro in Jharkhand for the last 100 years. The people of this village fear that the celebration of Holi will lead to an epidemic or a major natural calamity in the village.

For more than 100 years, the 9,000-odd villagers of this Jharkhand hamlet nestled by the Khanjo river have not celebrated Holi as they believe that the ghost of their former king will wreak havoc in the village if his diktat is not followed.

The village of Dahua in Multai in Betul district of Madhya Pradesh doesn't celebrate Holi for the last 125 years. The village chief died on Holi.

The demise of the prominent person caused ignorance panic in the entire village. Holi has never been celebrated in this village since then. However, it is now said that this has been reflected in religious beliefs.

Holi has not been celebrated in Guhalla village in Kaithal area of Haryana for 150 years. A sadhubaba was living in this village. Some villagers mocked Baba on the day of Holi. This joke became so popular with Baba that Sadhu Baba jumped into the bonfire Holikadahana.

It is said that Baba's stature is small and some people have ridiculed his stature on the day of Holi. Angered by this, Baba cursed that the person who celebrates Holi on this day, his family will be destroyed and Holi was buried alive on the occasion of combustion. But on the sayings of the people, they also suggested a remedy for curse.

Holi is not been celebrated in Kharhari village in Korba district of Chhattisgarh for about 150 years. On the day of Holi, the village was engulfed in flames. After this an epidemic spread in the village. The village was severely damaged. Holi has not been celebrated in this village since then.

Holi is not celebrated in the village of Dhamnagudi in the state of Chhattisgarh for 200 years. Gulal scattering and Holikadahan have been banned in the village. On the day of Holi, no villager goes out of their house.

In Kundra village in Uttar Pradesh, only women are allowed to play Holi. In the Ram-Janki temple in this village, women celebrate Holi with great fanfare. However, no man or child is allowed to play Holi.

Holashtak is the eight-day period just before the celebrations of Holi. This year, Holashtak 2021 starts on March 22, Monday and ends with Holika Dahan on March 28, Sunday.

The Ashtami Tithi begins at 7:10 am on March 21, 2021, and ends at 9:00 am on March 22, 2021. Holi falls on the Full moon day in the month of Phalgun. This year Holi falls on Tuesday, March 29, 2021, and Holika Dahan is on Sunday, March 28, 2021.
